The interesting little Dachshund
The Dachshund is a very popular breed of dog. Due in part to the fact that there are so many different varieties. There is the smooth-haired, long haired, wire-haired, miniature smooth-haired, and miniature wite-haired.
This dog has been classified incorrectly for years due to an error in translation. In German, Hund means dog, not hound, so the translation should be Badger Dog, and not Badger Hound. The fact is, this dog is actually a Terrier and far from a hound.
This clever, cunning, and mischievous breed has been commonly referred to as "weenie dog," "sausage dog," and several other names similar in theme. Generally, people think that the poor little weenie dog was named after a hot dog, but, in fact, the term "hot dog" came from a drawing made in 1903 of this breed of dog in a roll, thus, sausage in-a-roll became "hot dog."
