To give or not to give your dog a bone?
People often throw their table scraps to their dogs, often including bones and all, but before you give your pup that leftover fried chicken, you might want to reconsider.
Bones, particularly chicken bones, can splinter in your pup’s throat, leaving nasty injuries, or worse. If you want to give your dog a crunchy or chewy treat, try out cornstarch based dog bones and chews. These safer alternatives to real bones are showing up in more and more pet stores across the nation, and are usually quite easy to find on the shelves and online.
These cornstarch based treats are also a good alternative to rawhide, since it has been found to give dogs salmonella poisoning. It is important to note that most all dog chews and bones are potential choking hazards, though some much more than others.
