Dog grooming is a large part of proper dog care for good health

Taking proper care of your dog is essential for promoting good dog health. Proper care includes, grooming, nutrition, exercise, and paying attention to the little things. It may sound like a lot of work, but it is surprisingly easy and inexpensive.

Regular dog grooming will help to control parasites, fungus and keep the skin and fur healthy. The grooming shop will come to know your dog and while grooming, they will run their hands all over your dog looking for any lumps, tender spots, or other indicators. These are the little things I was speaking of earlier, and this will be one less thing for you to worry about.

Proper nutrition requires special attention to your dogs behavior and matching that behavior with the right food. Designer foods are more expensive, but since they are more meat protein than corn, it takes a lot less food to satisfy your dogs appetite. A word to the wise, unless your dog is a hard working sheep herder, you probably do not need the high performance dog food. This food is like giving a child a load of sugar before bedtime. You may find your dog digging, chewing, and doing other naughty things that are uncharacteristic of his/her behavior. Your grooming shop will also be on the lookout for out of the ordinary behavior and can make some suggestions on nutrition and exercise.

It is also important to give your dog enough exercise. A trip to the park three or four times a week, to chase the ball, or fetch a flying disk is good for the physical health as well as mental health. This will probably do wonders for your health too.
