The calm, steady, sporting Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever is one of Canada's best experts to the rest of the world. In fact, the breed is the world's most popular dog. It's no surprise either, just ask anyone who has ever owned one or ever had much contact with one and they are likely to tell you, it's the best dog they have ever been around.
The dog originally started out in Canada as a fishing dog. It would retrieve heavy fishing nets and drag them ashore, where the nets could be emptied. The breed made its way to England where some Canadian fishermen sold their dogs to English hunters. The English hunters used them as retrievers of water foul.
Today the dog is used in a wide variety of jobs. It is very smart, helpful, and attentive. The attributes make it perfect for guiding the blind, sniffing out drugs, and locating mines. It is also a very popular show dog.
