Taking good care of your puppy
Taking care of a puppy is serious business. Puppies require an investment in both time and money. Time, because they require a lot of attention and money, because of toys, dental care, and veterinary care.
Puppies require a lot of time, because they require training. If you do not train him or her, you will be left with an uncontrollable dog that barks, chews, and digs in the worst places at the most inopportune times. Training is accomplished by a simple punishment/reward system. A positive action is rewarded by pets, hugs, treats, and play with toys; a negative action is reprimanded by a swat with a rolled up newspaper, a growl, an unpleasant high-pitched sound, or even a shock.
The most important thing is health care, when you get your pet, the person or entity you are getting your pet from should know what shots it has had and a schedule of when it should have the rest of its shots. They should also be able to tell you when, if the animal has not been already, it can be spayed or neutered. Always remember, veterinary care should not wait, you now have a new member of the family that requires just as much care as you and your kids.
