Small dogs have not always been pampered little pooches

Small dogs have always been cute and cuddly, but they were originally bred for more dubious reasons. Before there were rat and mouse traps, villagers needed dependable vermin control. Little dogs were bred to fit into small spaces, and they were bred ferocious for their size to quickly dispatch vermin that sometimes were larger than the dog itself.

If you own one or more of these little animals, this would explain its fearlessness and persistence. The lack of fear sometimes gets little dogs a stereotype of being annoying little yappers. This was also bred into them. Why, you ask, would anyone create breeds of dogs to bark incessently? In early times, little dogs were used to flush out game or tree animals by barreling through the brush barking. The sound of a ferocious animal coming to do them harm would scare out boar, deer, raccoon, and in some cases even bear. This dog's bark was definitely worse than its bite.

These days, tiny dogs are revered as house dogs, even though most of them are quite hardy and can stand both hot and cold extremes. They are a source of happiness for many, many people. Little dogs can still be ferocious hunters and vermin control if allowed, but you would not subject our little precious baby to that, would you?
